People are always asking me about marketing strategies to sell products and services. And I want to give you a tip on how to do that, how to sell without selling. And it's a little bit of a story I want to share with you about why I bought my Apple watch.
Aside from me being an Apple fanboy and all that stuff 🙂
So the reason why I bought the Apple watch is because I sold myself on it.
And that's the key to the marketing strategies to sell products and how you can sell without selling.
It's really about understanding more about your market.
In other words when I wanted to buy an Apple watch I already had a Fitbit watch.
There was nothing wrong with my Fitbit but I sold myself on the Apple watch. Because “it was better.”
And this is me selling myself. And so the way that Apple does that is that Apple sells benefits.
They do sell the features of the watch and all this other kind of stuff, but they're selling the benefit of the watch. They want us to know what the benefit of having this watch?
And that's why when you look at their videos or when they do their keynotes or anything else they'll show you a feature, but then they'll explain what that feature actually do for you?
In other words, when I first looked at the watch and said; well, why do I want the watch? Why is it better than my Fitbit?
Because really all I'm doing with my Fitbit is making sure that I get up and I walk around and get some exercise. Because I'm in my chair all the time copywriting, coaching and all that stuff.
So I wanted to make sure that I actually get up and do some exercise during the day. So what was the Apple watch going to do for me until I saw the heart rate monitoring because I'm a little bit older and maybe I need that heart thing going on.
So that was one little thing that I wanted to look at to make sure that I would be healthy or whatever.
So, as Apple is showing their keynotes or I'm going on YouTube and watching things about the watch and the videos I'm selling myself on it.
They didn't have to do anything in order to sell me on that watch.
And that's the whole key behind to marketing strategies that sell. Make sure you have an understanding of your customers so well that you tell stories about the features of whatever it is you're selling that helps benefit the person's life.
Does that make sense?
So in other words, every time Apple would tell me something about the watch feature, they would give me a benefit; “this is how it's going to benefit your life.”
I'll give you another example.
I have the Apple watch five. And this version has the always on feature or something like that. And I didn't know that there was a difference.
But when they explained it, they said, Oh, you know what? There's new version has this always on feature.
So if you're ever on a bus or you're even in a situation where you can't tap your watch or something you can still look at the time or whatever it is you're doing. I'm like hey, that's a benefit.
Do I ever use it? No. Actually, it actually turned off the always on feature. But it made me sell myself even more on it because they're telling me how that feature fits into my life.
How is it going to help me in my life? So I want to make sure that when when you're selling if you want to sell anything, the way that you sell something is by telling people what the benefit of what the feature is.
But don't focus on the feature. Focus on the benefit to their lives. And I told you before that the benefit is everything that sells.
And if as long as you keep on telling stories about how that helps their life, whatever the feature is you're going to be able to sell without selling.
Hopefully this helped you out. If it did, give me a thumbs up or something below. Share with somebody that you think needs to hear about this and if they're having trouble marketing or whatever.
Or even better, leave me a note below of what you want me to talk about when it comes to marketing or growing your business and I'd be happy to give you a little bit of opinionated knowledge and help you out.
Cheers.
Joey
