6 Words That Solve 85% of Marketing Problems

every day someone tells me they have marketing problems.

some of the common marketing problems today are:

🔷I still get no traffic
🔷I get little to no engagement when I post on social media
🔷I can’t get my leads to convert

those are just a few. the list goes on and on.

and if you have similar challenges I empathize with you.

I know how it feels to launch and get nothing but crickets.

time after time it feels like I’m WASTING time and I should give up the whole dang business. 😵

but then I come across someone doing so well that I get back on my feet and keep moving.

now at this point, I always come back to the 6 words that solve 85% of all marketing problems.

they aren’t mine. I learned this from Gary Halbert.

here are the 6 words:

Sell Stuff People Want To Buy!

as simple as this sounds…you’d be surprised at how many course creators, entrepreneurs, and experts don’t follow this straightforward rule.

no finger-pointing here. ‘cos I’m as guilty as anyone.

which is the reason I’m always talking about marketing problems and solutions.

believe me. I’ve failed more than anyone I know.

here’s one of the biggest marketing problems today:

oftentimes we ‘push’ our product or service onto our prospects…❌even when we don’t mean to.

the reason we do this unconsciously is that we don’t really understand what people want.👨‍👨‍👦‍👦

we think we do.

but we really don’t.

and that’s the reason you and I need to take the time and figure out what our customers’ DEEP DESIRE really is.

let me explain this further using an example Gary uses.

imagine you have a severe toothache. 😫

the pain is excruciating. it resonates throughout your body.

even sitting still the pain pierces through your gums.

so what’s the ONLY thing on your mind?

right.

GET YOUR TOOTH FIXED.

so you go to the google.

you type “fix tooth” or “fix toothache”

a few options pop up.

the first one is some dude with a “how to fix a toothache” ebook.

the next is a local dentist ad “fix your toothache now – open 24 hours” 😍

my guess is that you are not opting in to download some dudes’ ebook are ya?

no.

you want to call that dentist and get this thing taken care of NOW!

👉which brings me to my next point:👈

sell them the solution to the problem they’ve GOT to solve.

Perry Marshall uses a “bleeding neck” analogy as a qualifier test for whether our product is needed.

even Gary says the best thing to when starting out in marketing is:
DON’T start selling people what they want. Start by selling them what they have to have.

back to you.

is your product or service something they HAVE to have?

or is it something they want? (or worse “might want”)

when you look at your offer/product/service through this simple filter everything is clearer.

this is the very reason I challenge every one of my clients with the simple question “are people looking for this?”

remember-always sell people what they want and if you’re just starting out, sell them what they HAVE to have.

How to Copy Apple’s Marketing Strategies To Sell Products

People are always asking me about marketing strategies to sell products and services.  And I want to give you a tip on how to do that, how to sell without selling. And it’s a little bit of a story I want to share with you about why I bought my Apple watch.

Aside from me being an Apple fanboy and all that stuff 🙂

So the reason why I bought the Apple watch is because I sold myself on it.

And that’s the key to the marketing strategies to sell products and how you can sell without selling.

It’s really about understanding more about your market.

In other words when I wanted to buy an Apple watch I already had a Fitbit watch.

There was nothing wrong with my Fitbit but I sold myself on the Apple watch. Because “it was better.”

And this is me selling myself. And so the way that Apple does that is that Apple sells benefits.

They do sell the features of the watch and all this other kind of stuff, but they’re selling the benefit of the watch. They want us to know what the benefit of having this watch?

And that’s why when you look at their videos or when they do their keynotes or anything else they’ll show you a feature, but then they’ll explain what that feature actually do for you?

In other words, when I first looked at the watch and said; well, why do I want the watch? Why is it better than my Fitbit?

Because really all I’m doing with my Fitbit is  making sure that I get up and I walk around and get some exercise. Because I’m in my chair all the time copywriting, coaching and all that stuff.

So I wanted to make sure that I actually get up and do some exercise during the day. So what was the Apple watch going to do for me until I saw the heart rate monitoring because I’m a little bit older and maybe  I need that heart thing going on.

So that was one little thing that I wanted to look at to make sure that I would be healthy or whatever.

So, as Apple is showing their keynotes or I’m going on YouTube and watching things about the watch and the videos I’m selling myself on it.

They didn’t have to do anything in order to sell me on that watch.

And that’s the whole key behind to marketing strategies that sell.  Make sure you have an understanding of your customers so well that you tell stories about the features of whatever it is you’re selling that helps benefit the person’s life.

Does that make sense?

So in other words, every time Apple would tell me something about the watch feature, they would give me a benefit; “this is how it’s going to benefit your life.”

I’ll give you another example.

I have the Apple watch five.  And this version has the always on feature or something like that. And I didn’t know that there was a difference.

But when they explained it, they said, Oh, you know what? There’s new version has this always on feature.

So if you’re ever on a bus or you’re even in a situation where you can’t tap your watch or something you can still look at the time or whatever it is you’re doing. I’m like hey, that’s a benefit.

Do I ever use it? No. Actually, it actually turned off the always on feature. But it made me sell myself even more on it because they’re telling me how that feature fits into my life.

How is it going to help me in my life? So I want to make sure that when  when you’re selling if you want to sell anything, the way that you sell something is by telling people what the benefit of what the feature is.

But don’t focus on the feature. Focus on the benefit to their lives. And I told you before that the benefit is everything that sells.

And if as long as you keep on telling stories about how that helps their life, whatever the feature is you’re going to be able to sell without selling.

Hopefully this helped you out. If it did, give me a thumbs up or something below. Share with somebody that you think needs to hear about this and if they’re having trouble marketing or whatever.

Or even better, leave me a note below of what you want me to talk about when it comes to marketing or growing your business and I’d be happy to give you a little bit of opinionated knowledge and help you out.

Cheers.

test marketing

Beat the odds: use test marketing to win

One of the questions about test marketing I see come up ALL the time… like EVERY day is something along the lines of;

“should I do this or that? what do you guys think about this or that? has anyone done this or that? what was your result from doing this or that? what did you think about this or that? I’m trying to decide if this or that is better”

whew.

Before we move on…let me be clear.

I’m not saying STOP asking for help/advice about test marketing.

It’s IMPORTANT to brainstorm and talk with others about your business ideas.

Heck, if it wasn’t I’d be out of a job. 🙂

But that brings me to my point.

Any and EVERY time someone asks my advice on test marketing I tell ‘em what I think is best for them. And, I give them data that backs up what I’m saying.

BUT…I ALSO tell them “don’t just do what I say. TEST what I say.”

Because I’m giving my knowledgeable opinion.

Nothing anyone tells you is “right” until YOUR market “proves” it’s right by taking the action you want them to take.

That could mean an opt-in, a purchase or whatever it is.

To make my point…

…if you have one thing that’s not working or if you ‘heard’ from someone you should do something another way…SAVE yourself the TIME, headache, conflicting opinions, and stress that leads to more indecision and TEST IT.

That’s what test marketing is for.

Here’s why.

EVERYONE has an opinion.

If you ask me which email service provider is best for example, that delivers to the inbox, has the best automation etc…I’ll tell you Infusionsoft.

Joey #2 will tell you Active Campaign. And it goes on and on and on.

Who’s right?

Again, opinions, help, suggestions about test marketing…ALL good – but not if they control your life/business.

Far too many times I see threads in discussion groups that have a bazillion “this is best” answers to one question. And all it leads to in most cases…is more confusion for the original person asking the question.

How do I know?

‘cos the ‘avatar’ for my coaching are people who are totally overwhelmed, feel like a rag doll pulled in multiple directions at once, and just want to feel confident, capable and relaxed with solid support and understanding.

And I tell ‘em the same thing I just mentioned here.

DON’T BE AFRAID OF TEST MARKETING – .

Then you’ll know 🙂

product launch failure
Launch A Product

4 Common Product Launch Failure Reasons

Whenever I see a launch fail it usually points to these underlying reasons:

1 – the offer isn’t clear on the value

2 – you compete with others who sell for lower prices

3 – the audience doesn’t see the value or differentiation of what you provide

4 – the cold audience isn’t nurtured enough

commit those product launch failure reasons to memory.

because if your launch fails…it’s one, a combination of, or ALL of them.

Let’s focus on #3 because it makes a product launch fail almost every time.

Because differentiation is the new marketing.

I’ll say this over and over and over again. Until my tribe (that’s you) take it to heart and run with it.

Because now people are becoming more aware of the problem that exists….which is the SEA OF SAMENESS

But they don’t know how to FIX IT.

So you and I have a window of opportunity to BE DIFFERENT so we avoid product launch failures.

So the question is

HOW are you differentiating?

In today’s marketing world, NOTHING is new. People have seen and heard everything.

Which means they’ve seen your copy template.

“How to X Without Y”

“X Ways to Y”

forget all that.

What you need moving forward in this decade is a BIG IDEA. One that aligns with your dream customers’ core desire.

Don’t get me wrong. There is still room for the templates.

BUT, when I hear people tell me about their a product launch fail, the culprit ALWAYS comes down to:

“you didn’t explain the value of what you bring to the table in a different and fascinating way so that your product / service matches the core desire of your customer”

Put simply – people don’t differentiate.

A 5 pound bag of sugar is a 5 pound bag of sugar.

Unfortunately most marketers position as the NEXT 5 pound bag of sugar.

Not great.

Onward.

The other thing I want to stress is if you are in a highly competitive market (such as “online marketing service” or something like that) the WORST positioning is by price.

Because using price as your competitive advantage means you’re a commodity. (read: 5 pound bag of sugar)

And anyone can sell for a lower price.

The other reason to avoid pricing as your positioning is that people who pay low prices (generally) are challenging customers. They aren’t bad people…but they expect the BEST without wanting to pay for it.

No judgement. Just the facts.

On the other hand, when you have a quality service and position it in front of the right people with money, your entire business changes.

Ask me how I know.

Before I end this convo…let me share a checklist I use when looking at market.

These are the disqualifiers (from Perry Marshall) to help us avoid a product launch failure

1. Do they have money?

2. Do they have a bleeding neck? (read: the problem today needs to be u-r-g-e-n-t)

3. Do they buy into your unique selling proposition?

4. Do they have the ability to say YES?

5. Does what you sell fit in with their overall plans?

Just one more thing.

If you want to avoid a product launch failure, many times it’s not about changing the product/service…it’s usually about changing the audience.

Use the qualifying questions above. And then work on your differentiation message.

BTW…if you want some help on your differentiation message then I invite you to take a look at my Strategic Marketing Blueprint here.

double your business
Increase Your Sales

How to double your business income in 3 years

Let’s talk about what it takes to double your business income.

Because whenever I ask clients; “what do you want your business to do in the next 12 months”?

80 percent of the time the answer is “DOUBLE”

Let me share a secret with you.

To double your business it only needs to grow 25% for 3 years. (source: Cameron Herold – Double Double)

I’ll prove in a minute.

When you think about it, 25 percent is NOT all that much to double your business is it?

Let’s take a closer look.

broken down that’s only a 2% growth per MONTH!!

if your business can’t grow by 2% there is something VERY wrong.

trust me. I know 🙂

but that’s for another post.

let’s look at a simple example of how to double your business income in just 3 years;

First off, I’m no math guy.

But when it comes to a simple way to double your business like this, I’m IN!  (but just in case you find a miscalculation I’m pleading the 5th 🙂 )

let’s say you sell $1,000/m. that’s 12k in revenue a year.

we take 25% of that.

which means in the first year you add $3,000 by selling only 2 percent more every month.

to be clear, it means you’re only selling $250 extra per month.

believe it or not you’re on the path to double your business.

because the next year you do it all over again.

but this time you work with your new revenue of 15k. Which is the original 12k + the 3k you generated over the year.

we then take 25% of that NEW annual revenue.

which means you now have to sell 312.50 extra per month instead of $250.  Still not a huge jump, am I right?

of course that gives you an extra $3750 for the second year.

BOOM!

we’re not done yet.

Now in year 3 you begin with a total income of $18,750 from the year before. (15k + 3,750)

now. at this this 3rd year you need to sell $390.63 extra every month.  but you’re on a roll to double your business income already right?

so you bring in an extra $4687.50 income for the year.

and when you add this to your revenue you have a total of $23,437.50!!!

here’s the bottom line:

we started with 12k.

in just three years we make $23,437.50.

okay, so it’s not EXACTLY double. but I’m sure you won’t be upset with the simple formula to double your business I just showed you.

here’s how it looks:

double your business

this is totally doable.  without grinding hard.

so many entrepreneurs like to complicate everything. or they swing for the fences every time.

when small base hits like this win the game every time.

in this case it’s to double your business.

what do you think?  lemme know below.

and if you’re in the mood to double your business and want some help with simple marketing strategies, here’s how we can work together.
