A Novel Approach to Get More Customers

Ready to get more customers?

I'm about to call it like it is.

Because I'm amazed at how lazy some entrepreneurs are…even with the total power we have at our disposal to research our markets and serve our prospects in the exact way they should be served.

How I Get More Customers

When I work with clients to “get more customers”, we don't sit around making up evil schemes of how we will beat the competitors' price or some goofy gimmick to get a sale.

No, we research to find VALUE we can offer first. We deep dive into the problems the prospect has…and we create solutions around those problems…

HOW?

We spend time looking around – in forums, blogs, Twitter and so on.

We READ and LISTEN to the prospect by talking to them…

Therefore, we HEAR what they're saying,

We're not trying to shove a product or service down their throats WE created in the HOPES someone will buy it.

We take time to help the customer by actually HELPING them – before we ask for ANYTHING in return.

Novel concept, to get more customers, right?

But it's the lazy entrepreneurs who focus on the front end sale that don't want to do the work that generates long term, loyal customers who will buy from you over and over again that lose.

There's a difference between short and long term gain.

Deliver what your market wants , not what YOU think it wants, and you'll be in the long term game.

You can see the research to get more customers in two ways:

as a pain in the ass, and every minute you spend doing it, you're not making money;

OR,

every minute you spend doing it, you will make 10x the money because you deliver a superior product / service.

Now go out there and research your market – they deserve that, don't you think?

Let's get a conversation going about this – what do you think?

Insanely Easy Business Research Methods

What business research methods are you using to make sure you’re putting your message in front of the right people?

Researching is not the sexy part of business.

Often, it’s boring. It’s not fun – and it doesn’t make you money. TODAY.

On the other hand, it WILL hopefully make you money TOMORROW.

Equally, it will SAVE you money, because if you’ve done your research well, you’re not wasting marketing dollars trying to reach “everyone”.

This is the stuff most entrepreneurs don’t want to do.

Because, like I said, it doesn’t have an “immediate” return on investment (of time and energy)

I’ve learned throughout my business life how important this step is…

In fact, it’s what allowed me to build a base of 5 thousand customers world-wide in 1989 when there was NO internet…and, NONE of the business research methods we have available to us today.

The First of My Go-To Business Research Methods

Google.

No surprise there, right?

With Google, you can “spy” on ALL your competitors, find competitors you didn’t know about and so on.

My clients constantly ask me “Joey, if there’s a lot of competition, isn’t that a BAD thing?” they continue “how can I compete?”

The answer is, in your online business…if there’s a lot of competition, it’s GOOD!

It means there is a market out there for you to sell to.

If there was NO competition, it would be something to worry about.

The Second of my Business Research Methods

Facebook

Another GOLD-MINE.

I don’t have the space to go into depth here…but trust me – you can find just about anything about your market from Facebook.

Whether you like Facebook’s “intrusion” into our lives or not – entrepreneurs taking advantage of their research and development are kickin’ ass.

As an example, go into your advertising manager, go over to the tools menu and select “audience insights”.

From there, you can research ANYTHING you want.

I’ll do this when I’m looking into a market and want to know more about the audience I’m about to send a message to.

I geek out at this stuff. Because it’s like finding personal diaries and knowing exactly what people do and think in their daily lives…

So we can target them, speak their language and offer them products and services that completely FIT what they’re looking for.

BRILLIANT.

Those are my two favourite business research methods…there are more, but I just wanted to let you in on 2 of them at your disposal right now.

What are YOUR favourite business research methods?

Business Leadership Skills That Steal the Spotlight

I have a funny way of looking at business leadership skills.

Because when I'm creating something, a post, a book, a program, course, seminar – whatever…

I'm secretly designing it so the critics will criticize.

Isn't that odd?

It's not my MAIN focus, but when I create anything – there's ALWAYS something in it that I know will piss someone off, or they'll totally disagree with.

And THAT'S the point.

It's a part of business leadership

In my opinion, it sets you apart from the status-quo when you stand up and deliver something you totally believe in.

When you create something from a passion to help others.

Because I know there will be my fans-followers-my tribe, who will LOVE what I have to say.

In many cases, I'm saying what THEY'RE afraid to say, or sayin' something they've never thought about and needed to hear.

They love what I have to offer them because it supports their own passions, beliefs, and desires.

No, I'm not on a pedestal…

I'm IN the crowd. I'm listening-engaging-asking-challenging and learning.

But more importantly, I'm moving forward.

I don’t care about pleasing everyone – so that will eventually attract the critics.

If that’s how you’re building your business, like Seth Godin says in Tribes: We Need You to Lead Us; “A remarkable product or service is like a purple cow. Brown cows are boring; purple ones are worth mentioning. Those ideas spread; those organizations grow…boring ideas don’t spread. Boring organization don’t grow”, well, you're probably not going anywhere fast.

So which are you?

The brown cow that everyone sees and no one is talking about?

Or the purple cow that some people see as magnificent, yet others see as disturbing because it doesn’t “fit in?”

I’m sure you know which “cow” I'm shootin' for. Because I’m using my business leadership to help shape the lives of others…first – not “make money” first.

So when you stand out to help shape the lives of others, you’ll ultimately find some (or they’ll find you), who do not want to be in your “tribe”.

Cool right?

Either way, it's a win-win-win, because everyone's doing what they love to do 🙂

So how are you creating business leadership skills in your business?

Are you willing to be criticized?

If so, bravo – you've moved from mediocre, boring, follow-the-herd to leader!

Let's get a conversation going below – where do YOU stand?

How to get business leverage playing games you can win

I learned something REALLY important about gambling that totally applies to business leverage…

I’m not a gambler…

But I’m a true entrepreneur…

Which means I’m ALWAYS looking at other “industries” to see how they’re “secrets” can get me more business leverage.

The lesson I learned was: “Play games you can win.”

Sounds obvious, but it goes deeper than that.

Professional gamblers play PEOPLE they know they can beat – the “mark”.

I don’t like being a “mark”.

And I would guess you don’t either.

I want to be on the other side.

So what does this have to do with our business leverage?

EVERYTHING.

We need to play the games in our business we can win.

And for the most part – I’ve witnessed enough entrepreneurs playing “games” they WILL NEVER win.

  • Trying to build multiple pieces of their business at once.
  • Trying to “sell” to “everyone” rather than a particular niche
  • Avoiding the hiring of professionals because they think it’s more expensive than doing it ALL themselves.

And that’s just off the top of my head.

They’re the “mark”.

They’re losing business leverage every day.

The point is – we need to work less and make more.

“Sounds great Joey, but HOW do I do that?”

This is the question I get all the time.

And for the most part, the answer is focus.

The answer is to focus on the 20% that delivers the 80%.

And that’s where people freak out.

Because focusing on the 20% means “letting go” of 80%…or at least MINIMIZING the involvement you have with it.

I’ll give you an example:

In every business, bookkeeping is a must – right?

Some like it,some hate it and still, some are “ok” with it. Which really means they’ll “put up with it” when they have to.

That’s where I sat.

When the time came, I just HAD to deal with it.

Rather than spending the money on a bookkeeper, I’ll “do it myself.”

That ended up being weeks of my life spent doing something I totally hated, but needed to do because I thought the expense of a bookkeeper would cost me more.

I’m not the only one with this theory.

And it’s not the only area in our businesses the theory fits…

However, when I focus on the 20% of stuff I’m REALLY good at, my business leverage takes off.

I’m able to PAY for those professionals so I can keep doing the 20% I’m good at.

I CAN HEAR THE NEXT OBJECTION ALREADY

“yea, but Joey, I need to MAKE MONEY FIRST before I can hire those people…”

True – but not true.

I agree that when you’re first starting out, money can be tight.

But, if you’re like me, you could spend decades “trying to make money”. I would argue that you’re really just “comfortable” with YOU doing it all.

That’s a business leverage game you can’t win.

When you believe “no-one can do it like me”, you’re absolutely right.

And for the 20% you do well – you don’t WANT anyone doing it.

However, for 80% you do “ok”, you’re throwing away the time and effort you could be putting into your 20% that MAKES YOU THAT MONEY.

Play the business leverage games you can WIN!

Let's start a conversation below…what do YOU think?

Personal Development Tips from Paulo Coelho

28 years ago (as of this writing), I doubt Paulo Coelho predicted social movements like Facebook, Twitter, and so many others, but he knew a lot about personal development.

Yet in The Alchemist, 25th Anniversary: A Fable About Following Your Dream, he says “Everyone seems to have a clear idea on how other people should lead their lives, but none about his or her own.”

POWERFUL.

Because there’s no shortage of us posting, sharing, and commenting about how other’s lives should be.

Yet our own lives are not as optimal as we can make it.

Because we avoid any change that has an unproven outcome…

We ignore the voice of our soul…

Even though every day we're fighting an internal battle between our heart and our head.

We’re never satisfied – always complaining – clearly “seeing” how others can improve THEIR lives…

We’ll share a motivational quote – a video.

We’ll tell the world how they should follow the advice.

Yet we IGNORE our own advice for personal development.

We “knight” ourselves as coaches, mentors, and consultants of SOME degree (yes – present company included) yet we rarely INVEST the time or money INTO ourselves, so we CAN help the others we tell about our “coaching”.

And I’m not pointing any fingers here – BUT – as anyone will tell you who knows me – I DO INVEST time, money, effort into myself…

LOTS of it.

But I digress – this is NOT a mini “coaching commercial”.

I just believe that if we are going to input into others' lives, we better damn well be doing something for ourselves…mistakes included.

The Personal Development Part Jumped Off The Page

When I read that quote in the book – I knew immediately what this post was going to be about.

Because our world has become the playground for all of us to peek into others' lives, and push our own lives further into the shadows…

The increase in “reality” TV shows are proof of that.

We can’t get enough of how “others” live their lives – and we focus on how “they” should fix it. All-day at the water coolers, on the patios, and over texts.

Shouldn’t we work on our own personal development first?

LOOK INSIDE.

The answers are there.

You know if you’re ignoring the questions and answers.

You know how many excuses you tell yourself every day.

You know how many times you “escape” to the world of social media to “share” the good word, but you’re only avoiding it yourself.

Like I said – NO ONE is perfect … we all have flaws –

But if we’re going to suggest how others should lead their own lives, let’s make sure we’re doing that for ourselves first.

Peace out.
