Some of the best online business advice we’ll ever get comes from the least likely source.
This one comes from my man George Costanza.
If you’re a Seinfeld fan like I am, you’ll immediately recognize it.
“Do the opposite”
It’s not actual “business advice”, but I like thinking outside the box.
Let me explain.
In this particular Seinfeld episode, Jerry tells George to “do the opposite”. Because nothing is working. Every decision George makes is wrong.
Suddenly, everything starts working for George. Because he goes against his first instinct and does the opposite.
Which brings me to my point about this online business advice
I decided to take the “opposite” advice 6 weeks ago.
The marketing campaign I was running wasn’t working. I wasn’t selling anything. The ads were a flop.
NORMALLY, my instinct would tell me to cut my losses and stop advertising.
That’s also what most people do BTW.
It’s natural.
When we’re losing money, we want to stop the bleeding.
90% of the time, it’s a good move.
But sometimes we have to give in to the 10% that could make all the difference.
Which is exactly what happened.
Here’s what I mean.
6 weeks ago, rather than pulling the plug on my marketing and advertising, I remembered that Seinfeld episode. I “did the opposite”.
Even though I was scraping the bottom of the barrel, I doubled my ad budget.
Then I doubled-down on the marketing and campaigns.
What’s that you say? Where did I get the money I didn’t have?
I sold off some of my investments to keep the marketing side of the business running.
That’s how I roll. Talk is cheap (don’t take this as financial advice)
Never say die. I say…go ALL in.
Thank Gawd I did.
Because that SINGLE (opposite) decision turned my business around.
It doesn’t mean I’m makin' money up the wazoo' today.
But I AM saying I can see the results from the investment in advertising and marketing.
Without #confidence, I would not be writing this email about how things “turned around”.
