Great Smart Goals are:

Outcome focused. Once you have your WHY established you are 90% there.

In line with your values. The more a smart goal aligns with your inner core values the EASIER it will be to achieve. It's important to understand that you can achieve goals that don't align with your values but it's usually harder and less satisfying.

Stated in the positive frame.  For example "I want healthy fingernails" rather than "I want to stop biting my nails"

What Are SMART Goals?

Specific so you know exactly what you are trying to achieve

Measurable so you know when you have achieved it

Action-oriented so you can DO something about it

Realistic so it IS achievable

Time-Sensitive so you know WHEN it needs to be completed

Focus On the Outcome

What is it that you REALLY want?  It's important to dig deep.  What is the SPECIFIC outcome that you are looking for?  What is the PAIN for you if you DON'T achieve your goal?

The idea of smart goals is to help us move toward a bigger goal that impacts your business.  So the process I find that works best is to break the BIG goal into the 4 MAJOR moves.

These are the primary moves you need to make smart goals happen.

inspired by Brendon Burchard, each move is a “project” that consists of deliverables, deadlines and activities.

Make sure the goals you write are your own.  Which means they are smart goals that you TRULY want and not something you think you SHOULD have or SHOULD be doing because you see someone else doing them.

Identifying Obstacles

Can you start and maintain this goal outcome?  How will making this change affect other areas of your life?  There are always other things going on in our life and we sometimes allow ourselves to stray from a focus on our goals when we need to deal with  other things in our life.

This is the reason for the "Action Struggles List" you find on the

There is always something you need to give up/stop doing to achieve your goals.  Essentially this is the 'price' of making changes and advancing your life and business. Are you willing to pay that price?

One thing to ask yourself is "who do I need to be to achieve these smart goals?"  Often times we need to alter our habits, mindset and so on to achieve the goals.

Just one more thing.

Smart goals are there to inspire you not to beat yourself up with if you don't achieve them.
